Fish N Spliffs: UK Roundup- December 7th

Digga D, M24, and Gully highlight this week’s roundup! We also see a new addition to the Fish N Spliffs format!

Here are a few tracks that will get your head bobbing and your blood flowing as we sadly move into the winter.

Digga D- Daily Duppy

The only Daily Duppy that had it’s own trailer. That shows the level of excitement that was surrounding Digga D finally giving us Daily Duppy performance. The extended GTA metaphors are insane, and the rest of his bars are tight, funny, and creative as hell. The beatswitch is smooth too. Digga’s one of the best out right now, no doubt.

Andre Fazaz and Dbo- War

Andre Fazaz has a nice singing voice, and his actual rapped verse at the end of the track was pretty decent. If I’m being honest though, this is here because it has Dbo on it, and I just cannot get enough of his voice and delivery. I’m gonna need some solo tracks from him eventually. Fazaz has some funny “YING DAT” ad-libs, in honor of Gully.

Gully- Bring it

Speaking of Gully, this man has more energy in his ad-libs alone than most guys can put into an entire track. This feels a lot like “Ying Dat Part 2,” but there’s nothing wrong with that. He’s still pretty new on the scene, so his infectious energy and wild ad-libs are more than enough to keep me interested.

Baby Mane- Vent

I’d bet you a fair amount of money that Baby Mane listens to a ton of Lil Baby, Polo G and Lil Dark. He’s really go that melodic Chicago drill feeling to his music, and he does something pretty impressive with that sound. I’d love to hear him with wewantwraiths and 38 Shamz. Also the track he teased at the end of the video REALLY sounds like a Polo G track, down to the flow, so I’m interested to hear that when it drops.

M24- Too Much Pride

M24 gets a little autobiographical and hops onto a more rap-centric beat, rather than the drill he’s been on for a while. This is smooth, and the piano heavy beat is luxurious as fuck. I’m really liking M24 over this tape of production. It all sounds very natural.

Pete and Bas with M24- The Old Estate

Here’s M24 back on some drill, but Pete and Bas are the main attraction here. They are unironically talented, and have outlived their meme status at this point after being on some tracks with some legit drill artists. Bas declaring “I’m a lovely geezer, but I’m a violent man,” is as hilarious a bar as I’ll hear all year. Then he hits this ridiculous non-stop flow. If you have some time and enjoy amazing things, the rest of their tracks are must listens.

This week, I’m introducing a new section within these roundups. I’ll be calling it the Signature Spliff. It’ll simply be random UK track or album that I think is worth listening to, or one that was important in getting me so interested int he UK scene. As much as I love focusing on the new music, there are plenty of sick tracks that I simply won’t be able to write an entire piece on, but still want to bring to your attention!

Signature Spliff

Skepta- It Ain’t Safe

Even A$AP Bari’s scumbag ass being on this track doesn’t stop it from being one of my favorite songs of all time, regardless of genre. The bassline. The crunchy, dirty synth lines. Skepta’s cold blooded flow. It’s all perfect. “Ring, ring pussy, It’s your mummy on the phone.”

Thanks for checking out this week’s roundup, and keep your eyes peeled this week! I’m still hoping to do a quick write-up on Karma and Trizzac’s new tape, and I also just saw that Abra Cadabra’s new tape just dropped as well, which I am hoping to cover in the near future.
