Fish N Spliffs: March 22, 2021

Yeah, we’re talking about some of the best UK music I’ve heard in the last week or so. Just like we do every week! Well, most weeks.

I’m off a Guinness and a half so let’s check out some damn music, or whatever!!!!!

Lucii and YA- Step & Kweff

Lucii dropped most of the extreme devilish shit, YA dropped the “Young” from his name, and someone got YA out of the tin can he recorded a ton of his previous verses from. It all works to perfection here, adding up to some intensely straight forward, nasty drill. Lucii starts his verse by declaring, “Catch me in the bando, two big rambo’s twinning on both of my hips,” and closes it out with, “Take this shit to your aunt’s/ Your nan, your dad’s, your mom’s/ Violate mine, I’ll inflict harm/ Leave all your loved one’s with scars.” Really sums up what he’s all about. These two guys’ improvement has been fun to watch.

wewantwraiths- Know You

Vibes, vibes, and more fucking vibes. It’s what you expect with a wewantwriaths track, and he doesn’t disappoint here. His slightly off key, but undeniably emotive singing voice shines here, as he mostly stays in his lower register. This man does the wavey, auto-tuned shit better than just about anyone right now. Like he really does it, you know? I’ll turn into one of those annoying pre-teens that flood the replies to any rapper’s tweet without any shame, as I will continuously scream into the void: WE NEED THE FULL ALBUM!!!!!!!!!! But these one-in-a-while loosies will have to be enough for now.

M1llionz and Lotto Ash- How Many Times

Here are a list of tracks/instrumentals I know M1llionz could absolutely kill: “Man in Black,” by Johnny Cash, “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems,” by Kenny Chesney, any Turkish EDM track, “Here Comes The Sun,” by The Beatles, but played backwards and 2 octaves lower, that throat noise the creepy bastards from The Grudge make, and the sound of wind blowing through the massive trees of the Black Forest in Germany. Literally anything. His flow doesn’t need a beat to find a pocket. He just gracefully bulldozes his way to the exact pocket of a track, even when it clearly shouldn’t work. M1llionz’s flow has fully transcended. What the fuck, man.

ONEFOUR- Street Guide, Pt. 1

I hope you brought some gas for the plane. Hop in baby, we’re going to Australia and we’ll keep out visit short and sweet. Visuals? Hard as fuck. Instrumental? Hard as fuck. Bars and performances? Hard. As Fuck. They ditched the more melodic tendencies found on Against All Odds, and just smack you in the face with this one. I need a mosh-pit, stat. I remember losing my mind in the pit at a Young Thug show I went to in November of 2019. Last show I went to before Covid. Wild memories. It was a true highlight because I didn’t get my spliffs taken at the door either, despite forgetting they were just in my wallet. Shit had to have reeked. Good job security at The Rave in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Oh yeah I almost forgot to mention, the chorus has no business being so damn catchy, either. Just wait until Lekks and YP are free and they’re back at full strength again. Shit, wasn’t this supposed to be short?

KO- Tables Turn

Now, because I imagine you all talk to yourselves as much as I do, you’re probably saying, “Wow, it must be time for the “New Artist” section. Right?” Fucking wrong! This is KO, dummy, a member of The 98s that has featured here in the past. His flow is pristine, and the minor melodic embellishments he throws in there for a little flavor are a welcome change-up. I would love to hear him explore that style a bit more. Everyone needs a little off-speed pitch to compliment their fastball.

Billy Billions- Tizzy

“Okay, that little joke in the last section wasn’t very clever,” you’re thinking, “Who’s this Billy Billions chap, he’s gotta be a new artist,” ponders my mostly American audience in an oddly UK-centric vocal pattern. Of course not! This is Billy Billions, duh! Another member of The 98s! Now you’re probably thinking that I just included another 98s track to continue this undeniably hilarious bit. NO, I TAKE THIS VERY SERIOUSLY. CLEARLY. The song is fucking great, as he continues to flex his straight rapping voice. Someone needs to invent a machine that will turn in the vocal choir sampled on this beat into some sort of intravenous liquid, and then inject that directly into my bloodstream, because I can only imagine that would feel otherworldly. I bet that’s what the Covid vaccines mainly consist of. Billy kicks the track off by saying he made an opp shit himself, before later rapping, “I chinged up an opp and I watched him die/ How the fuck did he get revived?” I could get used to this version of Billy.

Skeng, Darko and Perm- 3OuttaADrive

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aonfIxnTIPM

“Wait, is this finally the “New Artist” section? He doesn’t even stick to that every week, why is he continuing this shit?” Yeah it is. Only an absolute madman would continue something so hilarious. But, yeah. The song is as hard as goddamn concrete covered in some sort of future concrete that’s even harder than the concrete that currently exists. Yeah, you get me.

Lancey Foux- STEELO FLOW

Two month old track? Sure! Style, flow, energy, weird cadences. Lancey’s got all of that in spades. 3d flow.

Lancey Foux- DON’T TALK

What was I saying about missing mosh pits again?

Lancey Foux- RIO FREESTYLE

More Lancey because I realized I wanted to get to 10 tracks, and this is another nice random loosie from October. ENERGY! GET ME IN A DAMN MOSH PIT OR I’M GONNA LOSE IT.

I hope you all enjoy these tracks, and I love you all.
